The Signs of Sleep Apnea

Sleep apnea manifests itself in many patients’ waking hours, characterized frequently by fatigue, morning headaches, and irritability or mood swings. Perhaps the most common symptoms of sleep apnea are snoring, teeth grinding, or trouble breathing while asleep, three problems that are sometimes only discovered by a partner or through testing. Even if a patient has mild sleep apnea, the effects can have significant consequences for oral and overall health, including an increased risk for weight gain, diabetes, heart health issues, and even death in the most extreme cases. We offer a variety of treatment options for patients with sleep apnea, including mouth guards for those with mild to moderate cases or CPAP intolerance, and custom CPAP machines for those with severe sleep apnea.

Doctor Sohl Discusses Sleep Apnea Treatment

Our Sleep Apnea Treatment Process

Our sleep apnea consultations begin with a thorough screening to check for tell-tale symptoms, including worn teeth due to grinding or clenching. We offer a simple take-home sleep test that provides us with further information on your sleep patterns. These tests are then sent to a board-certified sleep doctor for further evaluation and diagnosis, with an additional referral for testing, if necessary. Once these results are received, we can begin the treatment process by creating a custom mouth guard. We always follow up with our sleep apnea patients to ensure that their mouth guard or CPAP machine is fitted correctly and working properly.
